Similar to health insurance, dental insurance is typically offered through employers as part of an employee benefit package. However, what are your options if you are self-employed, or your employer currently does not provide dental insurance to their employees. Whether your employer offers dental coverage or not we can help!
Group Dental Insurance:
Group dental insurance is defined as being employer-sponsored plans. With these plans, your employer selects the insurance carrier, and dental benefit plan that they intend to offer to full-time and potentially part-time employees.
Individual Dental Insurance:
There are options in the individual market (not employer sponsored) for self employed individuals as well as individuals who work for companies that do not offer dental insurance.
Individual dental plans are only available through a small number of carriers, and benefits vary greatly. Individual plans can also be cost-prohibitive for some. The biggest negative on individual dental plans is that they typically have a six months or longer waiting period before they will cover any major service which can include fillings.
There is, however, an alternative: Discounted Dental Plans.
Discounted Dental Plans:
Unlike dental insurance, a discounted dental plan is NOT insurance. A discounted plan provides you with access to dentists who will offer you a discount on their normal fees if you are a member of the discounted dental plan.
